Jacqueline's Blankets 'n Bows
welcome to jacqueline's hand-crafted baby blankets - baby gifts for any occasion

I remember watching my mom crochet, fingers flying. She made all kinds of things for her four kids - ponchos, blankets, and some of those cool vests we wore in the early 70's. Mom taught me to finger crochet when I was about 6 years old and still watching Sesame Street. I'd sit for hours watching Kermit and other cartoons while I finger crocheted long chains. When I was older and had more dexterity (about 9 years old) Mom introduced me to the crochet hook, then I made better, longer chains.... I had fun and continued to learn basic stitches. I made my first afghan for my high school home economics class. It was a pretty snowflake pattern with a dark purple border, using the best yarn I could get at the downtown "five and dime" store. I still have, and use, that afghan.

Through the years I have crocheted off and on, mostly making baby blankets for family and friends. I tried knitting for a few years, but the work seems to go more slowly, and I keep forgetting how to cast-on...

Crocheting baby blankets seems to be my "thing". I've tried a few more full-sized afghans, teddy bears and other stuffed animals, baby bibs, and more baby blankets. I enjoy crocheting baby blankets the most because they're so-o-o cute, very durable, relatively quick and easy to make, and they seem to be treasured by those who receive them as gifts. My children each have their own mommy-made baby blankets they seem to enjoy sleeping with and cuddling.

The baby blankets that I am making now are very soft and cuddly. I am currently using three different yarns: One is 4-ply for a nice cool-weather blanket, the second is 3-ply for a lighter more delicate blanket, and the third is a sparkly yarn that I may occasionally use for accent. Every blanket is machine washable and dryable. My blankets come wrapped with special bows, ready to be presented as a unique and wonderful gift.
